For Families

NCW is a literature house for all ages. We recognise that a love of words and story-making makes writers of the future and can begin with the very youngest among us, and that free access to books and stories outside of a school setting are essential.

Our family programme responds to this with an enthusiasm to create playful, creative sessions for families to enjoy together. Intergenerational communication and cooperation, wordplay and story-making form the heart of this work.

Dragon Hall is open and more accessible to visitors of all kinds, including wheelchair and pushchair users.

Neverending Stories

Neverending Stories encourages storytelling between parents, carers and their children in a supported environment, to nurture a shared love of stories and play, imagination and words.

Story time doesn’t have to be sitting down and reading a whole book. It doesn’t have to be a certain amount of time. It is about sharing a story with your child, whatever that may be.

TOASTies Poetry Show

Working with Lewis Buxton and Daisy Henwood from TOAST Poetry we have presented several hour-long family poetry shows with some of the best children’s poets in the UK.

Aimed at families with children aged five and over Lewis and Daisy devise and deliver a fun, interactive poetry experience where rules are broken, and new ideas are brought into being! Each show features a known UK performer, and lots of opportunity for audience interaction and play.

The events foster a shared love of poetry and spoken word, in a fun and playful way for all members of the family.
