Calling curious creatives! Do you have loads of ideas and love to try new things? Do you want to meet likeminded people and work together on projects that encourage positive social change?
Our Lit from the Inside programme for 14 – 17 year olds gives you the opportunity to explore your creative skills and get valuable, hands-on experience of working in the arts industry.
We welcome young people with all manner of interests; from reading, writing and books to performers, musicians and lovers of crafts who want to try their hand at something different.
Our Insiders meet fortnightly with NCW staff to:
- Develop their own creative writing
- Collaborate on producing and promoting a zine
- Learn about how to organise and promote writing events
- Meet and interview authors, translators, and international writers
- Judge the Young Norfolk Writing Competition 2022
- Discover what an arts organisation does and how it works from the inside
To be a Lit Insider, you need to live or go to school in Norfolk.
Sessions will take place fortnightly between February and December 2022. The first session will take place on Wednesday 2 February, 6-8pm, online, with subsequent sessions taking place online or in-person at Dragon Hall, depending on participant feedback.
What previous Lit Insiders have said…
‘My confidence has really increased. Doing the Radio interviews, live streama and just asking guests questions has really boosted my confidence, especially in public speaking. I have also tried many things that I would have been too scared to do before and ended up really enjoying them. This means that in the future I will be more confident to step out of my comfort zone! I have come out of my year at Lit From the Inside with many new life skills, which I will always be grateful for.’ – Young participant

‘Not only did Lit live up to my expectations but surpassed it! I have loved being in a group of lovely and interesting people, especially during lockdown. Continuing through lockdown on Zoom was amazing as I had expected Lit to stop as we couldn’t meet up. Thank you for keeping it going! The opportunities have been incredible, and I have done many things that I would never have dreamt of being able to do!’ – Young participant

Observe/d — a Lit Insider zine
This zine is a small sample of creative work that our 2021 cohort produced during their time together — both responses to prompts from the workshops they’ve attended, and work written alongside their participation in the scheme. Each brilliant piece highlights the power of seeing and being seen at a time when having your camera on or off is a deeply purposeful choice.
Created by Emoefeoghene (Efe) Akpofure Imoyin-Omene, Sophia Harrison, Sophie Law, Edith Stewart & India Taylor.
