We’re thrilled to announce a selection of upcoming residency opportunities from our friends around the world designed to immerse you in vibrant and diverse cultures and stimulate your creative practice. Bucheon, South Korea
Journey to South Korea and become the first ever international guest to Bucheon City of Literature’s residency program. The offer is open to two artists of any discipline who will enjoy a four to six week residency in July – August 2020. In under 50 years, Bucheon has transformed from an agricultural rural area to an industrial city and now to a city of culture, with a library on every street corner. Applications are open to writers, translators, cartoonists, and graphic novel artists that come from the UNESCO Creative Cities Network.

Ljubljana, Slovenia
Calling published writers from UNESCO Cities of Literature! Ljubljana City of Literature is offering 7 writers of any genre the opportunity to spend a one-month solo stay in the Švicarija/Swisshouse Creative Centre – part of the International Centre of Graphic Arts. Voted the Green Capital of of Europe in 2016, selected writers will have countless parks and green areas to wander through while becoming immersed in the thriving cultural scene. Residencies will run from May through to November, 2020 (one month per residency/applicant).

Reykjavík, Iceland
In October 2020, take a creative trip to the capital city of Iceland and stay in the iconic Gröndal’s House. Once home to the writer and visual artist Benedikt Gröndal (1826 – 1907), the house is located in the heart of the Old Town , close to all amenities and cultural hot spots. One lucky international children’s fiction writer will stay for the course of a month and have the opportunity to take part in Mýrin – the Reykjavík International Children’s Literature Festival.

Ulyanovsk, Russia
Are you a writer or an artist? Travel to the Russian city of writers and painters this Autumn. Home to literary giants such as Ivan Goncharov (Oblomov, The Precipice) and Nikolay Karamzin (History of the Russian State) and revolutionary artists, Arkady Plastov and Nikas Safronov, Ulyanovsk is a city steeped in history and culture waiting to be explored.

In 2012, the National Centre for Writing led the successful bid for Norwich to become England’s first UNESCO City of Literature joining a prestigious network of cities worldwide.
