Engage! is a collaborative project between four UNESCO cities of literature around Europe – Barcelona (Spain), Krakow (Poland), Växjö (Sweden) and Norwich (UK). Each city is running its own project focussed on cultural activism and literature. Norwich’s project is called Young Arts Professionals.

We’re recruiting 10 Young Arts Professionals, aged between 15 and 17. Our Young Arts Professionals will be given the reins to design and deliver their very own Festival in a Day, as part of the 2019 Norfolk & Norwich Festival. The festival will explore freedom of speech in the global and digital world – with a focus on cultural activism in the arts.

Between September 2018 and June 2019, you’ll be supported by Writers’ Centre Norwich staff whilst you programme and market the festival. You can pick which artists you want to approach, you can decide how you want to advertise the festival, and you will be on the ground on the day to make sure it all runs smoothly. Your time as a Young Arts Professional will culminate with a trip to the Milosz Poetry Festival in Krakow (June 2019).

To give you the skills you need, you’ll be given four days of training throughout the project from industry professionals. These will cover all the key areas of event planning, including how to programme a festival, how to manage a budget, how to market an event, and how to deliver your festival in a day. These sessions will be held on Saturdays. Using Writers’ Centre Norwich resources, you’ll also meet once a fortnight between October and May to plan and programme the festival. These sessions will be after school at Dragon Hall.

If you’re interested in the project, you can email victoria@nationalcentreforwriting.org.uk for more information.

Applications open on Friday 1 June and close Midnight, Friday 20 July.
