Why you CAN write! (workshop for 9-12 year olds)
Writing isn’t just work you do at school, but a creative process that can help you learn more about yourself and to express your feelings and experiences. But where do you start?
This friendly, small group workshop for 9 – 12 year olds focuses on being comfortable and having fun when writing. Writing can be an important part of who you are and your unique personal experience, and doesn’t have to be perfect! Together with workshop leader Ben Gaffrey, we will:
- Play games in the Dragon Hall courtyard which show how varied writing and storytelling can be
- Use our senses to find fresh inspiration for stories
- Learn how you can be a better writer and confident in your creativity
Finally, we will work together on a short story with the intention of creating the silliest plot and character – an activity which will hopefully take away any last nerves and will show you that enjoyment can come first when writing!
Places are limited to 10 participants – please book in advance to secure your seat.
Please note: Parents and guardians are not expected to stay for the workshop – Dragon Hall is located a short walk from the city centre and is surrounded by shops and coffee shops. If the attendee has needs which require additional support, please book an essential companion ticket.
Places are limited to 10 to ensure social distancing. We ask that masks are worn in the building but they can be removed once sat in the workshop. The workshop will take place in a well ventilated room. Individual drinks and wrapped snacks will be provided. We ask that anyone able to scans in via the Track and Trace app, and we will retain contact details for those young people who do not have smart phones. Read more
