Time to Write: Creative Writing Workshop for 13 – 17-Year-Olds (cancelled)

Tuesday 7 April
National Centre for Writing, Dragon Hall
11 – 1.30pm
£5

For the time being our Time to Write sessions have been suspended. Please refer back to the What’s On section of our website (and subscribe to our mailing list) for news on when they are back up and running.

This two-hour workshop offers young people aged 13 – 17 years the time to explore their writing skills through fun, engaging prompts and activities – whether it’s poetry, prose or any other kind of writing they wish to develop! They will then have some uninterrupted time to get words onto the page with the support of an experienced tutor, plus the opportunity to share their work with the group.

Paradise, Poetry and Pretend

Spend 2 hours with poet and performer Lewis Buxton talking, reading and writing about your paradise. What does paradise mean to you? Where is it? Who is it? What is it? Does it smell? What does it sound like? This workshop will teach you everything you need to know about expressing yourselves, using your imagining and your natural writing skills to tell the world how you feel!

Places are limited in capacity – please book in advance to secure your seat.

Please note: Parents and guardians are not expected to stay for the workshop – Dragon Hall is located a short walk from the city centre and is surrounded by shops and coffee shops. If the attendee has needs which require additional support, please book an essential companion ticket.

About the tutor

Lewis Buxton is a poet, producer & workshop leader. Coming from a family of teachers, his work is concerned with fathers and sons, how we learn gender roles, and how young men’s image of their bodies fit into the modern world. His poems have appeared in Ambit Magazine, Oxford Poetry and Ink, Sweat and Tears. In 2017 he was shortlisted for the Oxford Brookes International Poetry Prize, judged by Helen Mort. He has headlined stages at The Roundhouse, The Olympic Park, The Royal Festival Hall and the Norwich Arts Centre.
