Medieval Writing (two-part workshop for 9-12 year olds)
Runs Monday 23 & Tuesday 24 August, 1pm – 2pm
Oyez, oyez, oyez!
Let’s peer into a medieval town crier’s notebook. There is an urgent note from the King with the last line torn away, a handwritten letter from a stranger and some half-remembered gossip that was whispered in the crier’s ear earlier that day. How would you cobble these pieces of news together into a bold speech for the people of Norwich? Do you dare shout out news that the most powerful member of your audience doesn’t want to hear?
Over two sessions, led by Rose Hedges, we will cut and stick a story together inspired by the people of Dragon Hall in the 15th century, through the eyes of the local town crier. We will paste our stories into handmade notebooks that will be sewn up and sealed in wax, and collaborate on a new proclamation for Norwich to be bellowed far and wide.
Places are limited to 10 participants – please book in advance to secure your seat.
Please note: Parents and guardians are not expected to stay for the workshop – Dragon Hall is located a short walk from the city centre and is surrounded by shops and coffee shops. If the attendee has needs which require additional support, please book an essential companion ticket.
Places are limited to 10 to ensure social distancing. We ask that masks are worn in the building but they can be removed once sat in the workshop. The workshop will take place in a well ventilated room. Individual drinks and wrapped snacks will be provided. We ask that anyone able to scans in via the Track and Trace app, and we will retain contact details for those young people who do not have smart phones. Read more
