Workshop

Creating Characters (workshop for 9-12 year olds)

Tuesday 27 July
National Centre for Writing, Dragon Hall
10am - 12pm
£5 (bursaries available)

What makes a memorable character? In this session led by James Schute, we’ll look at the differences between exciting characters and boring ones. We’ll play with dialogue to see how different characters use speech, and we’ll try some techniques out to make effective characters. You’ll create your own believable characters to use in your stories and we’ll write some scenes where we introduce them into our own plots.

Places are limited to 10 participants – please book in advance to secure your seat.

Please note: Parents and guardians are not expected to stay for the workshop – Dragon Hall is located a short walk from the city centre and is surrounded by shops and coffee shops. If the attendee has needs which require additional support, please book an essential companion ticket.

Covid-19 precautions

Places are limited to 10 to ensure social distancing. We ask that masks are worn in the building but they can be removed once sat in the workshop. The workshop will take place in a well ventilated room. Individual drinks and wrapped snacks will be provided. We ask that anyone able to scans in via the Track and Trace app, and we will retain contact details for those young people who do not have smart phones. Read more
