Norwich Printing Museum

Norwich Printing Museum

Collections spanning 500 years of printing history. Although the physical museum is closed, NPM regularly participates at independent fairs and events.

Norwich Printing Museum (NPM) was born out of the collection of Jarrold and Sons Ltd and the desire to create a working printing museum in Norwich. It is custodian of a wide collection of printing and bookbinding equipment and ephemera, and an archive of related educational and historic material. The collection is currently in storage but, whilst looking for a new site, NPM remains committed to becoming an asset for the local community, sharing its knowledge and skills, and a point of collaboration for anyone with an interest in printing and the printing industry.

The museum became a registered charity (number 1186762) dedicated to the preservation of historic printing machinery and the advancement of training and education in the history and processes of printing, bookbinding and allied skills, with special emphasis on the endangered craft of letterpress.

NPM is passionate about preserving precious heritage skills and it is our aim to ensure that future generations can learn about the history and processes of hand composition, printing, bookbinding and of the allied skills.

From 2021 to 2026, the museum was offered space at the National Trust’s Blickling Estate, a stunning Jacobean house near the market town of Aylsham in Norfolk. This Historic Print Shop included about fifteen percent of the holdings, enough to show off some of our treasures and demonstrate and teach the processes of hand-printing, printmaking and bookbinding.

You can shop for bespoke presents from prints to retro posters from the collection.

The website hosts further blogs, links related to printing, and a full overview of the collection’s history.
