Norfolk Library and Information Service
At the heart of Norfolk’s vibrant literary landscape is Norfolk Library and Information Service, a cornerstone of community learning, creativity and connection.
With 47 libraries across the county, the service, managed by Norfolk County Council, offers far more than books – it’s a gateway to digital access, lifelong learning, cultural events and vital support services.
The Millennium Library
The flagship of this network is the Millennium Library in Norwich, one of the busiest public libraries in the UK. Located in the landmark Forum building, it’s a dynamic space where literature, technology and community come together. Visitors can explore an extensive collection of books, newspapers and archives, access free Wi-Fi and computers, or attend a wide range of events – from author talks and poetry readings to coding clubs and family activities.
The Millennium Library is also home to Norfolk Heritage Centre, which preserves and celebrates the county’s rich history, and the Business & IP Centre, supporting local entrepreneurs and start-ups. Its welcoming, inclusive atmosphere makes it a hub for people of all ages and backgrounds – a place to read, learn, create, and connect.
As part of Norwich’s UNESCO City of Literature status, the library plays a key role in promoting reading and writing across the region. Whether you’re a lifelong book lover or just discovering the joy of stories, Norfolk Library and Information Service – and the Millennium Library in particular – offers something for everyone.
