Key dates

  1. Submissions open: Tuesday 24 November 2020
  2. Deadline for applications: Friday 15 January 2021
  3. Shortlist of 3 writers announcement: 1 June 2021
  4. Winner celebrated: 1 July 2021

Eligibility requirements

The Prize is free to enter and open to all writers who:

  • Live in England at time of application and until at least June 2022
  • Are over the age of 18
  • Have not published a debut novel or full short story collection
  • Propose a clear case for support
  • Identify as experiencing specific obstacles to their early career

Submissions

Submissions are now closed.

All submissions must include:

  • sample of work of up to 2,000 words demonstrating your talent and potential
  • A short artistic biography of up to 250 words describing you and your work:
    • Experience and achievements relating to your writing, including any publications and prizes
    • Inspirations and current writing project
  • A statement of intent of up to 250 words describing:
    • Why support is crucial at this point in your career and what kind of support would be most helpful to you
    • The obstacles to your early career and how they have limited your success
