Join Amy Twigg for a fiction-focused workshop exploring why body horror resonates so strongly today and how you can harness its power in your own work.
Body horror is enjoying a surge in popularity, transforming our fears and anxieties into unsettling and imaginative physical forms. In this fiction-focused workshop, Amy Twigg, author of Spoilt Creatures and Milk, Bread, Teeth, will explore why the subgenre resonates so strongly today and how writers can harness its power in their own work.
With a mixture of informal group discussion and guided writing exercises, you’ll explore body horror’s creative possibilities while connecting with likeminded writers.
Together, we’ll consider how personal experience can inform fiction, examine themes of transformation, death and decay, and discuss the ethical questions that can arise when writing about the body.
You will:
- Interrogate the world around you, your personal experiences, and how these might be used in your writing
- Experiment in a supportive and encouraging creative environment
- Leave with new ideas, techniques and perspectives for writing about the body.
Whether you’re developing a specific project or simply curious about the genre, writers of any level are welcome.
Please note: This workshop is for adults aged 18+ only. As discussions may include graphic themes and content, participant discretion is advised.

Amy Twigg
Amy Twigg is a writer, born and raised in Kent. Her debut novel Spoilt Creatures won the BPA Pitch Prize and was longlisted for multiple awards, including the Mslexia Novel Competition and Polari Prize. In 2024 she was chosen as one of the Observer’s Best New Novelists.
Her second novel Milk, Bread, Teeth comes out in January 2027.
