autumn term
it was cold outside
another monday morning shared by
tiredness, warm boots & tea
or perhaps a coffee
depends on your taste
crisp air & autumn weather may be
pretty but not
easy to face
those early traffic battles seen
through sleepy eyes in
a thoughtful state
trying hard to stay alert
& get to work
while still awake
growing seas of gloves
& hats adorn heads that
greet you down the hall
in hues from pink &
brown to blue
pastels showing new
signs of fall
at that same old desk again
the one that wobbles
weathered by ink stains
from ideas & mistakes with the
occasional sticker
all reminding you that
you’re a teacher
it was cold outside
another monday morning shared by
tiredness, warm boots & tea
or perhaps a hot chocolate
if it takes your fancy
crisp air & autumn weather may be
pretty & not
easy
but I value creativity
& would like it no other way
Ciera said: ‘The aim of this was to set the scene and show how a teacher is just a normal human being, which is something I feel students, especially younger ones, can forget to consider. I’ve tried to juxtapose the monotony of the routine work entails with a more positive twist of enjoying the fact that each detail of it is part of what makes the person who they are (a teacher).’
